I made this quilt in 2024 in honor of my lost loved ones and in honor of my ancestors. I’ve lost a great deal of friends and family throughout my life, and I wanted a way to honor those people and those memories. I hand cut each square, coated them in cyanotype chemicals, and places a Cemetry stone over the top. The squares with stones are loved ones, ancestors, or strangers I came across while educating myself on grief, death, and loss. Each blank square is to represent all those lost that were cremated. Cremation has become popular. I found myself questioning how to pay my respects to those cremated without the ability to physically visit them. The physical location is something we all hold onto. The ability to have a tangible way to pay our respects and visit our loved ones. Without this tangible way how do we grief? This quilt was my solution. Something I could hold, touch, wrap myself up in.
